The foremost responsibility expected of a family unit is raising and training responsible children that would become agents of transformation within their society and the world at large. This involves an active contributory roles from both parties (husband and wife) inculcating the right morals, values, characters and attitudes; that they would never depart from but imbibe upon as a creed in their daily lives. Fagan (1995) from an in-depth review of relevant literatures in the social science provides amongst others, insights of the root causes of crime. Some of which includes:           Parallel rise in crime levels over the past thirty years is attributive a dissociation of fathers from his families.           Neighborhood areas with high family density experiences a high rate in crime, attributed to fathers neglect or abandonment of their responsibility.          ...

EXPOSED!!!

My Father killed a man He was arrested To avoid prison He gave our 3 year old sister out in marriage to the victims family. When I recently heard the word Child marriage, I asked myself, does that still exists?  Not until I browsed through the net and saw mind blowing facts about the reality of child marriages. Gavin Weston was speaking to me (and probably to you) when he said most people simply dont know the extent of the problem. An estimated 25,000 child marriages occur every day. Thats mind-boggling, so much so that to many people it becomes abstract, unreal. Teenz Global Foundation held a TGF twitter chat on Sunday, August 28, 2016 by 4pm on Child Marriage with the harsh tag #childmarriage to discuss the menace and a way out on Child Marriage. She brought some speakers on the forum- Dr. Gideon Okorie @gsorochy, Olusola Folayan @itgsola and Uzor Darlington @visionike. The chat started with what Child Marriage is? Dr. Gideon defined it as a legal or customary union invol...

Child labor is especially prevalent in rural areas where the capacity to enforce minimum age requirements for schooling and work is lacking. Child labour: Child labour is a much narrower concept and refers to children working in contravention of ILO standards contained in Conventions 138 and 182. This means all children below 12 years of age working in any economic activities, those aged between 12 and 14 engaged in more than light work, and all children engaged in the worst forms of child labour. Children work for a variety of reasons, the most important being poverty and the induced pressure upon them to escape from this plight. Save our Children

Article by Ihenacho Michael 'Internally Displaced Children, Almajiri Boys, Street kids are Nigerian Children.. the children we neglect today will end up causing nuisance in the society tomorrow TGF Online In the face of the prominent strengths evident in Nigeria: being the largest black populated country in Africa, and that in every fourth African is a Nigerian ( Ngboawaji et al, No date) , there are no records of streets children. This in addition includes Almajiri boys and internally displaced children. This phenomenon is primarily attributed to breakdown in families, associated with most polygamous families. In such families, they are exposed in raising themselves, thus moving out to the streets. They are ether on a full time (in the streets) or part time occurrence (return back homes at night). As we celebrate Childrens day, marked every year on the 27 th day of May,  there is an ever increasing level of neglect in the upbringing and welfare of the...

Power of Reading

Power of Reading Reading for pleasure, achievement for life The power of reading has raised achievement in over 2500 schools across Nigeria and internationally. The power of reading have transformed the way the teachers teach and the way children feel about reading and writing. For too long, many primary school children in Nigeria have been allowed to fall behind reading. Most of us read without even thinking about it. Its a skill we take for granted, yet one thats essential for being able to get on in life. As a child grows up, being able to read well not only enables them to discover new fact and to learn at schools, but also opens them up to a world of new ideas, stories and opportunities. All pupils must be encouraged to read widely across both fiction and non-fiction to develop their knowledge of themselves and in world in which they live, to establish an appreciation and love of reading. ...

Attitude to SUCCESS

Attitude to SUCCESS         -  Oyoko .B. Many people have defined success in various ways. Because the term is relative, there is no one encompassing definition of success due to the fact that different people have different understanding of the concept. It is usually defined in relation to other people and their achievements. For this article, I will define success as an outcome or the end product of determination, courage and hard work, in other words, the reward of hard work is success. Success is a choice in life. You either choose to become successful or unsuccessful because everyone has the freedom to choose the consequence of his/her action in life. For you to become successful, you have to put in effort and be hard working, because pursuance to success is a journey of endurance. To achieve a desired success is not a small task, so we have to work hard. The friends we keep, play a large role in determining h...
