My Friend, Hakuri.

This is a short story about the unscripted life of my friend Hakuri. The best word I could describe my friend Hakuri was as an artist. She looked like an artistic model and was in her own way a born artist, right from when she was age two, Hakuri became so familiar with colors through painting, at first we thought she was going to be a famous painter, she painted all sort of things, from her toys to the natural world around her, but as Hakuri grew older, she took deep interest in drawing, and Hakuri's drawings were like reality. Baba Hakuri, her father encouraged it, but her mother saw it as un-girly and a lazy form of escaping house duties. This pained Hakuri because she thought her mother being a woman would understand her better, Hakuri saw Art as a form of expression, expressing her freedom and womanhood, to her, and it gave her an opportunity to play God by creating with her hands. But a day came, when Hakuri went into the city, and while walking and observing she saw a very b...

Opinion Poll: The Family or Society, Which has a Greater Influence on a Child?

Raising a child can be quite difficult, because as humans there are no stereotyped way of training them. Most times, children grow up to be different from what the parent has planned. The way we think and react and make decisions depend on how we perceive the world around us and the people we meet. When we hear success stories and regret stories it can be traced to the family or the society which changed the individual. Children are influenced by the advice or examples they get from their families or society. We all grew up in a family and a society, from your personal experience drop your opinion here as to which has a greater influence on a child, the society or the family. Olatubosun Chinwe-Taiwo.

THE ROOT CAUSE OF CRIME IN OUR SOCIETY

The foremost responsibility expected of a family unit is raising and training responsible children that would become agents of transformation within their society and the world at large. This involves an active contributory roles from both parties (husband and wife) inculcating the right morals, values, characters and attitudes; that they would never depart from but imbibe upon as a creed in their daily lives. Fagan (1995) from an in-depth review of relevant literatures in the social science provides amongst others, insights of the root causes of crime. Some of which includes:           Parallel rise in crime levels over the past thirty years is attributive a dissociation of fathers from his families.           Neighborhood areas with high family density experiences a high rate in crime, attributed to fathers neglect or abandonment of their responsibility.          ...

TRICIAS THURSDAY TALE

I particularly like Thursdays, perhaps because it tells me that the week is rounding up, and if I can cope from Monday till now, the rest is not a problem, or maybe because Thursdays are lecture free days for me. I checked my phone, 3:05pm, really? I thought I had slept more than that? Now what will I do today, I want today to be special and not particularly filled assignments and reading. Just then my phone beeped! Yea, I have not been online this morning. It was a WhatsApp message from Candycrush, who is Candycrush by the way? Candycrush? Oh yea, I remember her, my course mate I just met yesterday. Hanging out? I really dont know her that much to hang out with her, but I do know she is one of the big hits in the class, classy and brilliant, so whatever hanging out she might want to do will be ok, and in a way I feel honored that she invited me. Moreover I need today to be special. So I texted her back in agreement. The hang out was off campus, and by the time I got there, it was 5:1...
