Culture of Peace and Values of Citizenship was the theme of the 4th Edition of the Teenz Nigeria project implemented by the Teenz Global Foundation in collaboration with the FCT Social Development Secretariat, Independent National Electoral Commission and other partners. The program was well attended, as 34 schools participated with over 640 teenagers, 71 teachers and 120 adults. Ms. Glory Onyekwere, the TN 2016 Project Manager, in her speech, said that this was aimed at harnessing peaceful values inbimbed in various Nigerian culture and to promote peaceful coexistence among young people using Indigenous languages.
Since inception, Teenz Global Foundation, a duly registered non-governmental organization founded in June 2011 has been complementing the efforts of Education, Media, Health and Development departments; local implementing partners, International Aid Agencies and Civil Society organizations; in providing high-impact approaches to meet the urgent, complex educational and social cultural challenges faced by children and young people in Africa, through impactful programs with sustainable solutions. Teenz Nigeria is one of such programs!
The most interesting aspect of this years edition is that it relates to the SDG Goal 4.7, to enhance the culture of peace among young people and to help them understand the values they should imbibe as citizens through various aspects of the project competitions. We had features such as the Theme Talk show, Cultural Contest, Cultural Arts, Indigenous Spelling Bee, the INEC Voters Education Quiz, introduction of the INEC Mobile App, Entrepreneurship talks and TGF Staff/Members Awards. The high point was when winners were announced with so much expectations coming from all contestants.
Participants had a memorable experience as they all look forward to another edition of this program and the foundation promises to organize subsequent projects to ensure sustainability as well as follow-up steps to promote Values of Citizenship. |
