Australia Awards Scholarships for 1,000 African Students 2017/2018 � with at least 3rd Class
Brief description: From 1st September, application opens for Australia Awards Scholarships 2017/2018. There are two categories of Award: Australian Awards Scholarships, to undertake higher degree studies in Australia at Masters level. And Australia Awards Short Courses, to undertake short-term, targeted professional training courses, in Australia and/or in Africa, in a range of development-focused sectors.
Target Group
  • You are a national of an African country. See country list below
  • You are an early or mid-career professional working in the Public Sector, the Private Sector or a Non-Government Organisation (Civil Society) in one of the listed priority fields of study.
  • You wish to undertake a Masters degree in Australia in one of the listed priority fields of study. You cannot study a Masters of Business Administration.
  • You have a clear vision for how you will use the knowledge gained through the Masters degree to improve policy, practice or education in the proposed field of study.
  • Gender Equality: Australia Awards target equal participation by women and men. Applications from women are strongly encouraged, and mechanisms are in place to support women applicants and Awardees.
  • Disability Inclusion: Australia Awards aim to ensure that people with a disability are given fair and equal opportunity to compete for and obtain a scholarship. Applications from people with a disability are strongly encouraged. Mechanisms are in place to support applicants and Awardees requiring specific assistance.

TSL 2017 International Schools Essay Competition and Debate
The Trust for Sustainable Living is pleased to invite schoolchildren around the world to write open letters to the soon-to-be-elected new UN Secretary General, outlining their ideas for practical climate action. Registration is now open and the deadline for entries is 15th December 2016. The annual essay competition and debate are aimed at primary students (ages 7-11) and secondary students (ages 11-17), supported by Teacher Champions in formal and home schools. One overall Grand Prize Winner (plus Teacher Champion and Parent) will win a free, all-expenses-paid trip to the Debates & Awards in the UK, and Prizes will be awarded to the top five Essay Winners in each category (Primary and Secondary). At the Debates, Prizes will be awarded for the best individual and group contributions. All participating students and Teacher Champions will be invited to attend the Debates & Awards.
Students are invited to write an essay outlining their thoughts on climate action, in English, as follows: Primary students (ages 7-11): �My Plan for Climate Action� (max. 400 words) Secondary students (ages 11-17): �We Can Beat Climate Change by 2030� (max. 600 words).


Applications Open for Visegrad Small Grants Program!
Deadline: 1 December 2016
 Visegrad Small Grants program serves as a facilitator of shorter-term, smaller-scale projects and is also suitable to provide seed funding and networking opportunities for future bigger scale projects. It supports individuals or institutions from at least 3 V4 countries and develops project activities in the fields of culture, science and research, education, youth exchanges, cross-border cooperation (bi-/trilateral projects possible), and tourism promotion. The grant is provided to non-governmental, civil society organizations (NGOs/CSOs), municipalities and local governments, public schools and universities, research and scientific bodies and public institutions in general around the globe. The basic criteria for granting the fund is the proposed project must deal with V4 region and further develop cooperation among project partners based in the region.

APPLY: Commonwealth short Story Prize 2017 for Unpublished Short Fiction Writers from the Commonwealth (�15,000Prize)

The Commonwealth short story prize is an annual award for unpublished short fiction administered and funded by commonwealth foundation. The commonwealth short story Prize is part of the Commonwealth Writers, the cultural initiative from Commonwealth Foundation.
WORTH
  • The Prize is awarded for the best piece of unpublished short fiction (2,000�5,000 words) in English written by a citizen of a Commonwealth country.
  • Five winning writers from five different Commonwealth regions share a total prize money of �15,000
  • The overall winner receives �5,000, one of the highest amounts for an international short story open to unpublished writers
  • Regional winners receive �2,500
ELIGIBILITY

  • Applicants from the shortlisted Commonwealth countries are eligible to apply
  • Short stories translated into English from other languages are also eligible, and we invite writers from Mozambique who write in Portuguese and writers who write in Samoan, Swahili and Bengali, and who do not have an English translation of their story, to submit their stories in the original language.

Travel Video Contest 2016 for Students.
The 2016 InternationalStudent.com Travel Video Contest is now open for entries. Students from around the world once again have the chance to win the $4,000 grand prize, a $1,000 Viewers� Choice Award, other runner up prizes, and, of course, worldwide fame.

The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) is pleased to announce the commencement of the 2016 edition of its annual Essay Competition.  The NSE Essay Competition, themed "Building a Sustainable Capital Market", is one of the Exchange's financial literacy and inclusion initiatives aimed at building a financially savvy generation.?

Regional Youth Summit on Countering Violent Extremism Application
The Regional Youth Summit on Countering Violent Extremism, hosted on 26-28 October 2016 in Maiduguri, Nigeria, will bring together young people, youth-led organizations, non-governmental organizations, governments and UN entities to agree on a common vision and roadmap to partner with young people in preventing and countering violent extremism and building lasting peace in the region. The summit will include participants from Cameroon, Chad, Mali, Niger, and Nigeria.
Age: youth participants should be between 15-35 years of age.
Travel costs: All travel costs for those invited to participate in the summit will be paid for by Search for Common Ground.
Application form and deadline
Applications from Nigerian applicants must be received in full by 15 September 2016 by 10:00pm EST (NYC Time). Applications from all other applicants must be received in full by 20 September 2016 by 10:00pm EST (NYC Time).
University of Oxford UK Commonwealth Shared Scholarship Scheme for Developing Countries 2017/2018
Application Deadline: 6th or 20th January 2017, depending on your course
Who is eligible to apply? Candidates must:
  • Hold a first degree at either first class or upper second class level;
  • Be applying to start a new Master�s course at Oxford in one of the specified programmes of study listed below;
  • Be nationals of a Commonwealth developing country, and not at present living or studying in a developed country;
  • Have not undertaken studies lasting one year or more in a developed country;
  • Be able to confirm in writing that neither they nor their families are able to pay for them to study in the UK (you will be asked to confirm this if you are nominated for the scholarship by Oxford � you do not need to provide confirmation in advance);
  • Be willing to return to their home country as soon as their award comes to an end (the Commission will only consider requests to extend leave to remain in the UK post-award for those wishing to progress from Master�s to PhD study and strict conditions will apply).

  • As English is the business language of Standard Chartered across the world, you need to be able to speak business level English to apply for our opportunities. Being able to speak more than one language is also an advantage.
