Ijeoma Sorochi Okorie (formerly Ijeoma Idika-Chima) is an English Language Professional, an Oracle Database Administration Certified Associate & Professional, a Multiple Award Winning Social Entrepreneur, an International Public Speaker, Trained TV Host, Researcher, Writer, Facilitator, and Counselor. She has over 5+yrs experience as a Media and Development Specialist that works directly with children and young people to empower them with life skills because she believes in inspiring a positive generational change of young people by increasing access to Education, Health and Information, to foster self-development and empower them for better choices as self-sustainers and entrepreneurs.
The graduate of English Language from the University of Abuja is the Founder of Teenz Global Foundationand Co-founder, Open Community Schools & Network. A Global Youth Ambassador by A World at School; a Child Protection Officer by Child Rights Brigade International FCT Chapter; an INEC Youth Ambassador by the Independent National Electoral Commission; a United Nations Online Volunteer; a 2016 Queens Young Leader; a UNSG-GCED Africa Advocate for Global Citizenship Education; a United States Institute of Peace Generation Change Global fellow; a Schusterman Alumni; an Associate Fellow of the Royal Commonwealth Society; a Member of National Youth Coalition for Education and a Certified Civic Leader by University of Delaware, USA.
She was recognized as a Young African Leader (YALI) and 2014 Mandela Washington Fellow by President Barrack Obama; She emerged Africa Region Finalist of the Commonwealth Youth Awards for Excellence in Development Work 2015 and a Recipient of the National Award of Excellence in Youth Civic Participation by President Muhammadu Buhari and the Federal Ministry of Youth Development during the 2015 International Youth Day in Nigeria. Her story was published in the 2015 Commonwealth Young Achievers Book, Voices of Youth blog by UNICEF-Nigeria and also featured on i24News.tv Israel. As a Youth Development expert, she was part of the team that reviewed the 2015 Report on Situation of Youth in Africa by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa.
Since June 2011 till date, through the Teenz Global platform, Ijeoma has implemented 30 Educational outreaches in 44 communities across 8 states + FCT so far (FCT, Kaduna, Benue, Kogi, Nassarawa, Lagos, Ebonyi, Abia, Plateau) that has reached over 20,000 children and young people. Hosted 4 annual Teenz Nigeria cultural programs and published several educational magazines and materials. Over the last two years, she has produced and presented over 52 episodes of Teenz Tym Television broadcast on AIT Abuja focusing on social issues and moral values targeted at teenagers with an estimate of 3 million weekly viewers; and awarded Academic Scholarship to 17 Secondary school students.
Currently implementing series of Youth Development programs, International Funded Projects and The Power Of Your Mind Project (POMP), a Mind-set mentoring program for teenagers both in and out of Schools amongst others.
